LinkedIn Content Strategy for Small Businesses in 2025

If you’ve got a small business and you ain’t really sure what to do with LinkedIn Marketing this year, read this.

You’re not alone.

Confused, overwhelmed, posting random stuff, getting like… 4 likes (2 from my friends), and one weird inbox message from a dude selling something totally unrelated.

But that was before I figured some things out. Some basic stuff. Some not-so-basic.

And this post, it’s just me spilling what works, what doesn’t, and what might save you a few headaches.

Why LinkedIn though?

LinkedIn is kind of like a business town square now. People post stories, run polls, talk about wins and failures, do branding, hire folks, close deals—all that. If your audience is even a little bit professional or B2B, LinkedIn is where you need to be hanging out.

And even if you’re a D2C brand? Your future partners, suppliers, clients—they scroll too.

According to HubSpot, 43% of marketers say that they have sourced a customer from LinkedIn. — HubSpot State of Inbound

First Things First: Who are your people?

I call this knowing your people. Like… who’s gonna care what you post?

You own a SaaS tool for freelancers? Then maybe your content has got to speak to the hustle life.
You run a local bakery that also does B2B catering? Then maybe it’s event managers or HR folks who care.

Sit down. Think. Ask yourself—“Who’s reading my stuff?” and “What do they wanna know but never say out loud?” Start there. Always.

Remember, about 45% of readers on LinkedIn are in the upper ranks of their industries: managers, VPs, CEOs, etc.

✔️ Step 1: Turn your profile from meh to magnetic.

Before you even post anything, fix up your profile. Please. I beg.

I have seen folks post great stuff but their headline still say “Managing Director | Passionate about innovation | Growth mindset 🚀”.

Nope. We’re not doing that in 2025.

Your profile should scream what you do and who you help.
Like:
“Helping indie fashion brands triple their reach with handmade video content”
Or:
“I help HR leaders plan office meals their teams actually like | Bangalore-based | 1,200+ events served”

Be clear. Be real. Drop the buzzwords unless you can explain them to a 5-year-old.

✔️ Step 2: Choose 3 content buckets. No more.

Don’t overthink. Pick 3. That’s all you need.

Think:

  1. Educational (Teach something you know)

  2. Personal (Tell a story, show some behind-the-scenes, wins/fails)

  3. Product/Offer-related (what you sell, how it helps)

Like, if you run a small skincare brand? Your buckets could be:

  • Skin tips from Ayurveda

  • Stories of building your business (show your late-night packaging runs!)

  • Customer stories + best sellers

If you confuse them, you lose them.

Stick to three, rotate, repeat.

✔️ Step 3: Write like you talk

Okay here’s where people mess up. They start sounding like corporate robots.

“Excited to announce our new initiative leveraging strategic synergies to…” Bro. No.

Talk like a human. Be chill. Break some grammar rules.
Say “Hey y’all, this month nearly broke me… but we shipped 500 orders.”
Or “We tried somethin’ new this week. Didn’t work. But here’s what we learned.”

Trust me, this builds trust. And people buy from people they trust.

✔️ Step 4: Use LinkedIn features but don’t become a slave

Posts, polls, carousels, newsletters, lives – LinkedIn has got all the tools now for robust LinkedIn Marketing.

But don’t try to do all of them every week. It’s okay to just post 2-3 times a week.
Monday: share a story.
Wednesday: drop a tip.
Friday: share a customer shoutout.

Keep it simple. You’re running a business, not trying to become a full-time influencer.

If you do wanna try newsletters? Make it monthly or weekly.
Name it something fun. Like “Chai & Sales” or “Builder’s Notes”.

✔️ Step 5: Engagement ain’t a suggestion, it’s the whole point

Posting is step one. But real magic? Happens in the comments.

Comment on other people’s stuff. Reply when folks comment on yours.
And not just “Thanks!” – actually reply with some real thoughts. That’s how the algo sees you as “active” and spreads your content.

Oh, and don’t ghost after posting. Hang around for 30 mins after hitting publish. Show up. Be present.

✔️ Step 6: Show your face. Sometimes literally.

Look, you don’t have to post selfies every week. But people do wanna know who’s behind the biz.

Even if it’s just your hand pouring tea while you type captions. Or your dog curled up beside your worktable. Post pics. Real ones. No stock stuff please.

They remember you better when you’re not just a logo.

✔️ Step 7: Calls to action that don’t suck

Sometimes all it takes is asking.

Try these:

  • “Want the full list? Drop a 🧠 below, I’ll DM you.”

  • “Struggled with this too? Let’s chat.”

  • “Who’s hiring content writers? Tag them please!”

Not everything needs a CTA, but when you do add one, make it easy and human.

✔️ Step 8: Repurpose like a boss

Don’t waste your good content. Squeeze it dry.

That tip you posted last month? Turn it into a carousel.
That comment you left on someone’s post that got 20 likes? Make it a post.
That customer story in your email? Clip it for LinkedIn.

If you wrote it once, you can remix it 5 more times.

✔️ Step 9: Track stuff (but chill about it)

You don’t gotta be a data geek. But check what works.

Look at:

  • Which posts get most engagement

  • What time your audience likes

  • What format (text vs image vs carousel) works best

Then… do more of that. Easy.

But also, don’t over-stress if one week’s posts bomb. It happens.

✔️ Step 10: Stay consistent, not perfect

This one’s huge. You don’t need to post daily. But you do need to show up regularly.

If all you got is 2 posts a week? Cool. Stick to it. Better than 5 in one week and then silence for a month.

Treat it like gym. Small reps. Keep showing up. You’ll get better.

Over 1 million unique publishers publish more than 130,000 posts a week on LinkedIn.

💡 Extra Tip: Collaborate, don’t compete

Tag folks. Shoutout clients. Interview a peer. Share wins with others.

LinkedIn is a team sport. Collabs boost visibility, build trust, and make the platform way more fun.

❌ Mistakes to avoid

  • I used to post only about my product. Snooze.

  • I ignored comments. Huge mistake.

  • I thought fancy words made me sound smart. They didn’t.

  • I quit posting after bad weeks. Big regret.

  • I forgot to actually enjoy it.

Now? I just treat it like talking to friends who happen to be into business too.

Wrap Up

You’re a small biz owner. You got stories. You got value. You got vibes.

Just show up. Talk real. Help people. Mix some fun. Mix some teaching. And tell the world what you’re building.

LinkedIn is free. Attention is precious. 2025 is yours if you keep it honest and human.

So yeah. That’s it. No big secret sauce. Just show up.
